Wow, I can only imagine the horribe impact that something like this might do the the Idol business and those who are unsure about it!!! :(

But with that said, to answer the question, I'm still very confident about these idols surviving because of the security that is (usually) guided with them. I'm sure that management are aware of the negative aspects/perception/stereotypes of the relationship between an older male and a younger female, so this event can possiby reinforce the prority to keep these idols secured. It also helps that something like this doesn't seem to happen much in the idol business (then again, I'm very new with undertanding the whole business)!

At least these ladies are not the President!! ;)

I actually think that handshake events would be the easiest to control as they are one-on-one situations with a possibility to scan people first.
Which is of course difficult in the case of indie idols who don't have the funds for security measures like the big units

It's different in a crowded situation like a concert. You always see a bunch of very hectic staff members in front, at the sides and behind when an idol wanders around the audience during concerts

But in the end there never is 100% security. Anywhere. Idol or not. A disturbed mind will always find a way.

The Internet is full of rumors. So forgive me, but I have trouble taking it seriously when someone posts an unsubstantiated claim about a celebrity. There's no news story about Shiorin ever being attacked.

But now that you clarified it, I found the story. Yes, that did happen, and it isn't funny.

I followed the aftermath of the attack for a while.
At least I tried as not much was written afterwards.
And then time made me lose my grip on the story.

Feel free to correct me (or translate a bit)
Mayu Tomita did survive and testified in the trial.
She has scars left in her face and on her arms, her mouth partially paralyzed because of a severed nerve
She still suffers from PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder)
The trial seems to have ended with a sentence of 14 years and 3 months for the stalker (the DA requesting 17 years)
Not enough in Tomita's opinion which considering what she went through is quite understandable
I know too little about the trial (and the verdict plus its conditions) to agree/disagree, and I don't want to resort to populist opinions which don't do anyone any good.

So while it's good to know that she is alive it's heart-breaking to realize that in a way her life ended that day with a long way to go to come to terms with what has happened
